With the goal of bringing color into the lobby of a performing arts center, I designed column wraps for columns that were 16 feet tall. Large imagery is usually read from a distance so that pixels blown up won't be seen, but since the audience would be able to walk up and touch these columns, I needed to come up with a method reading from a distance without looking bad up close. I decided that vector illustrations would be best, and chose a loose style over a photo realistic treatment. This particular illustration went on a column that was angled at the bottom, so I simplified the parts that would be cut off on installation. The illustrations were printed on self adhesive stock in sections and applied to the columns.
